Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) and sexual dysfunction in men such as erectile dysfunction or impotence symptoms are linked. This infection affects mostly men who are 50 years or above in age. Sexually active men are at an increased risk of getting affected.

Urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infection is caused by bacteria from the bowel that lives on the skin near the rectum. It can enter the urinary tract through the urethra. The lower urinary tract infections (LUTI) have been said to affect older men in terms of sexual dysfunction, but it may not be the only cause. The cause of this infection includes uncontrolled growth of bacteria, having sex with multiple partners and poor hygiene. The major symptoms include swelling and inflammation of linings of the kidney in case of upper urinary tract infection (UTI) or pyelonephritis and inflammation and swelling in the bladder in case of lower urinary tract infection or cystitis.

Impotence
Impotence is defined as the inability of a man to achieve or maintain an erection when stimulated sexually or during sexual activity. Impotence is known to have many physical and psychological causes such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol, spinal or nerve damage, anxiety, depression and guilt. The UTI can independently affect and cause impotence in men, especially those in their old age apart from which it is also dependent on the severity of LUTI. Such a cause to impotence makes it important for men with sexual dysfunction to be checked for LUTI. Sexual issues should also be considered for men suffering from benign prostatic hypertrophy.

For men who are concerned about their sexual problems such as impotence, it is advisable that they contact their local doctor and get themselves tested for urinary tract symptoms. This way they can be sure of the cause of their problem.

Mothers are always at risk of having urinary tract infection (UTI) while pregnant. Defined as bacterial invasion of the organs of the urinary system, UTI is one of the common conditions that a mother can have during pregnancy. The ones most prone to have UTI’s are those pregnant mothers who are on their 6th week to 24th week in pregnancy.

UTI’s may give the pregnant mother great discomforts during pregnancy. Some of the most obvious symptoms of UTI that the mother may feel are burning sensation upon urinating, frequent feel to urinate, pain in the lower abdominal area, urinating cloudy urine, fever, and in sometimes there is traces of blood in the urine. The pregnant mother can have UTI’s when she fails to urinate and clean up after a sexual intercourse, forgets to thoroughly clean stools after defecating, and the increase of pressure of the abdomen to the urinary bladder because of the growing belly.

When one thinks of UTIs, the first choice of treatment would always be taking of antibiotics to help get rid of the harmful bacteria that is invading the pregnant mother’s urinary system. But as we all know, taking medications during pregnancy is discouraged because it can cause birth defects and complications. Most mothers are reluctant to take antibiotics because of the knowledge that it can harm their pregnancy.

But what most mothers don’t know that there are a lot of antibiotics that are proven safe to use in pregnancy , have minimal effects and most often the side effects are often not felt. Here are some of the antibiotics that effectively cure urinary tract infection and ensures very safe to use by pregnant women.

Ampicillin

One of the most common antibiotics used in treating UTI’s during pregnancy. This drug is under pregnancy category B which means that it was tested on animals and was proven safe. However, pregnancy category B drugs are not tested on humans. Mothers who take this drug can feel side effects such as nausea and vomiting.

Cephalexin

This drug is a member of the third generation cephalosporin that is well tolerated by pregnant mothers and proves to be effective in treating UTIs. Side effects of taking the drug includes diarrhea, but it is only minimal and does not need any immediate intervention.

Erythromycin

It is safe to take during pregnancy and cures most UTIs.

Although these drugs are said to be safe to take during pregnancy, it is still important to consult your health care provider before taking in any medications while you’re pregnant. Self- medication is a big NO-NO for expectant mothers. Natural remedies for UTI are still best.

I am a 37 R old woman, smoker, non-drinker, no history of diabetes, thyroid, or heart disease. I have not been sexually active for three years and I am not on any hormones. Last month I had a normal period and 10 days after completion I began to bleed lightly but steadily from the vaginal area. I saw my family MD a bit over a week later and had a pap (results not yet back). I was told I had a severe bladder infection but I had not really noticed any symptoms. This was two weeks ago and the bleeding has gotten heavier. Then four days ago I bled from the rectum not during or after a bowel movement. I had a rectal exam two weeks ago, so I don’t think I have hemorrhoids. The blood is light to bright red, never rusty or brownish like a period and I have no pain. Occasionally the blood is a dark red but usually only when I arise. The rectal blood was also bright red. The vaginal bleeding has been consistent for 23 days. I have in this same time frame lost a noticeable amount of weight and have developed dark circles around my eyes. I have also in the past few days become quite short of breath. I know these symptoms could be due to anemia from bleeding but could they also be part of the disorder accompanying the bleeding? I don’t have insurance but I am not eligible Medicaid so I don’t want to waste money if it isn’t really necessary . Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated!

The beginning of this year I’ve gotten bad symptoms of UTI and went to the doctors to get it check out couple months later. These symptoms would go on and off. They check my vagina for any STD’s and gonorheea, and other nasty infections. I had nothing. The doctor told me I had UTI bladder infection. They prescribe me some antibiotics. And I took all of them till it was gone. I felt somewhat better for a couple of weeks until it started to reoccur again. I keep track of the reoccurring of the symptoms. It always happens to be a day or days right after I finish my period cycle. I’m on birth control so I only bleed within the first three days. And when I’m back on the birth control the symptoms can last for a day or a week. The symptoms aren’t that bad than before but it’s annoying and my husband thinks it’s because we have sex frequently and the friction has to do something with it. My husband and I have sex on a regular basis. At least 5-6 times a week. We BOTH do not have any type of STDs whatsoever. We both are clean people. What should I do?

Q) I am hoping someone can help. I have been in terrible pain for 3 days. I called my dr and they told me to go to the ER. I sat in the ER for 8 hrs and I was never seen. I called my dr and they said they couldnt see me for a week. I have had an ectopic pregnancy, and had a miscarriage. So needless to say, any pain that I may experience is going to scare the hell out of me. I have been home for the last 2 days and have realized that I am unable to pass gas, and it is very difficult to have a bm ( constipation). And today, I scared yelling in pain when I had to pee. Is there anything I can take for either problem? I am in a lot of pain and I am barely sleeping. I have to return to work tomorrow and I dont know how I am going to survive…Thanks for any help

Here’s something that may help. You can try drinking some prune juice for the constipation problem, and eating foods high in fiber and avoid drinking alcohol which can raise triglycerides levels and may increase constipation. As for the UTI, I think there is stuff over the counter that you can start taking that will help with the pain, but I don’t know if it’s safe to take while pregnant. If you truly have a UTI though, you need to be put on an antibiotic to get rid of it.

The urinary tract is the system that produces urine and carries the urine out of the body. Sometimes germs get into this system, causing an infection.

The most common type of urinary tract infection is called a bladder infection which is caused usually by bacteria getting into the bladder from the urethra. These infections are more common in women than men because women have shorter urethras making it easier for germs to get into the bladder.

A bacterium that lives in the large intestines and is present in stool is the most common cause of infection. Sexual intercourse, especially in women, may also be a source for bacteria to get into the urinary tract. Catheters, for people who are hospitalized, are another common source for a bacterial infection. Bacteria that travel through the blood may also cause infections. Also, kidney stones and, in men, an enlarged prostate can cause infections by limiting the body’s ability to urinate.

A person that is pregnant, had diabetes or does not drink enough fluids are at a higher risk for an infection.

Some possible symptoms you may suffer if you have an infection are:

pain or burning when urinating

feeling of having to urinate often, but not much comes out

tender or heavy feeling in belly

cloudy or bad smelling urine

pain in back where the kidneys are located

fever or chills

nausea and vomiting

Be sure to seek immediate medical treatment if you think you have an infection and suffer from a fever, nausea and vomiting or have pain where your kidneys are located, have diabetes, any type of kidney problems, and a weak immune system, are older than 65 years or are pregnant.

Your doctor will take a sample of your urine to test for any germs that cause bladder infections.

Bladder infections are treated with antibiotics that are prescribed by your doctor. It is also helpful to drink plenty of water and other fluids and to urinate often.

You can help to prevent these infections from occurring by drinking plenty of water, drink cranberry juice or take a cranberry supplement; do not hold your urine and women should urinate after having sex.

Although, uncommon, complications of urinary tract infections do occur if the infection is not treated properly or does not respond to treatment.

By acting promptly when you first notice symptoms of an infection, you will be able to cure a urinary tract infection by drinking lots of water to flush out the bacteria and be sure to follow your doctor’s advice for taking the antibiotics that were prescribed.

A urinary tract infection is unlike any other infection because it brings on an intense amount of pain. You really want it to be gone and fast so you can continue on with your life. Right now, you are unable to focus on anything else because the pain is so intense. You don’t have any relief and you are in desperate need of some.

A lot of women who have this infection don’t know how to get rid of it without going to the doctor’s. They spend a lot of their time and money on getting a prescription filled and sometimes that prescription doesn’t even work. You don’t want this to happen to you. You want to find some relief but you just don’t know how. You need a homeopathic cure for a urinary tract infection and fast. You don’t think that you can live with this pain for another moment.

Getting relief doesn’t have to be that difficult. There are things that you can do at home that will greatly help so you won’t have to be in pain anymore. A great homeopathic cure for a urinary tract infection is to drink a lot of cranberry juice. Cranberry juice helps to flush out the toxins that are inside of your body. It helps to get rid of the bacteria that are causing you so much pain. You will notice a big difference in just a matter of days on how much better you feel. This is a cheap and effective way to get rid of your UTI fast.

Many families find it a difficult task to balance their work, life and the care for their elderly. For those families looking for solution to deal with the growing needs of their grandparents or their elderly parents opting the assisted living facilities serves them a lot.

There are certain things you have to keep in mind when you are considering assisted living facilities. As we always say first impression is the best impression, you have to note the reaction on your initial visit and answer to these questions such as whether you were comfortable when you walked in, how you were affected with the environment etc. It might seem difficult, but this is the primary step for wise decision. It will be good enough to note all these points so that you can compare it once your tour is over.

Check whether the room is attractive, clean, hygienic, and comfortable and it should give a homely atmosphere because that will be the place where you are going to live. It is also quite important to understand about the staffs. The purpose of assisted living facilities is to equip the persons to live independently with the care of the medical and paramedical professionals. These staffs include doctors, therapist and social workers. Make a note to ask them whether the service of these staffs will be provided round the clock especially in the case of any emergency.

Another important area to visit is the dining room. See how the food is and the hygiene of the place. The food should be appetizing and should be able to provide options by a good dietician. Also ask them if the person needs special diet, how they will manage it.

It is good to get familiarized with the local people living in the nursing home, so that it will give you a clear idea about the functioning of the facility directly from them, which the staff might hesitate to reveal you. You will also get an idea about their activities, groups, outings and transportation.

Once you are okay with these things then it is the right time to make a choice. Don’t get frustrated; give sufficient time to compare the different service providers and select the one which you feel is more comfortable.

There have been some great reviews of assisted living arrangements in and around Kentucky if you’re lucky enough to live in that area.
